Japan Trip - Day 5

On our fifth day we visited Kyoto, it was my favourite day of the whole trip.
We got up early and headed for the Shinkansen to take us the 2.5hours from Tokyo to Kyoto. The Shinkansen was great, really spacious seats - much better than any UK train I have been on, super fast and we could see Mt Fuji from the train. Kyoto was hot, the weather was lovely and we got to see some of the most iconic tourist spots in Japan.

The Golden Pavilion - Kinkakuji Kyoto, I have seen in so many peoples photos, videos and television shows depicting this same building and location and now we are there. Kinkakuji was simply gorgeous and a place I would love to visit again.

For lunch we had our very first taste of Sushi from a rolling conveyor belt, I stuck mainly to the cooked fish, or other meats, or a very small amount of raw fish, but Tom was brave and tried it all.

Then just before the sun was setting we arrived at the 1000 shrines - Fushimi Inari Shrine.
Around the many many shrines were statues of foxes, said to be messengers.

Guess what?! There are literally thousands of shrines.
But it is still really interesting throughout, and the setting was lovely. I definitely think we picked the perfect time of day to visit, to see it in both the sunlight and moonlight.

We bought these little snacks for the Shinkansen ride back to Tokyo, they are a bread casing with a sweet bean paste inside. We stuck to the plain and macha flavours. :)
