Sketching: Faces 2

Sketching: Faces 2

Part 2 of learning to draw faces.
These two pieces took around 20mins each, and were drawn from the stylist magazine.

The White Queen
I'm really excited that the White Queen has started on the BBC, I'm a real fan of the Philippa Gregory books, and I loved the Tudors when it was on BBC.

A fashion image
I feel I have managed to age this model by about 10 years - Oh gosh.
A little more work is needed I think.

ALLO Blog icons Commission

ALLO Blog icons Commission

A while ago I worked on some social media icons for ALLO's blog (A life less ordinary).
I was given a brief and some images for inspiration.

Part of the brief was to make a rose pattern for the backgrounds.

I painted them with water colour.
Once I was happy with the roses I started drawing out the icon logos.

Below are the finished icons.

Sketchbook Project - Embroidered portrait

Sketchbook Project - Embroidered portrait

I've been working on an embroidered piece for my sketchbook project. I haven't worked on a piece like this for years, and it was nice to create something different. The portrait is of my Grandmother's Mother.

Lego figures

Lego figures

Tom and I had a short shopping trip the other day, in which we visited the Lego store in Leeds Trinity. We decided to build our own little figures from the buckets available, the three figures we chose were a mermaid (my choice), a criminal (Tom's choice) and Tony Proud (a friend of ours), well when we found the plaid shirt there was no one else we could build.

Tony Proud Lego Figure.

I've built up quite a collection of small Lego figures.

Suit Direct Wedding Feature

Suit Direct Wedding Feature

A while ago I was commissioned to do some illustrations for the Suit Direct website to be part of their wedding feature. I based my illustrations on the first dance, wedding photographs and the best man speech.

**The competition has now finished. **

Studio Ghibli love

Studio Ghibli love

From the first time I saw Spirited Away years ago I have always had a great love of the Studio Ghibli films and characters. I think it was Totoro the big fluffy woodland creature that I loved the most. I wanted to create an illustration encompassing the very best parts of Studio Ghibli.

I planned out my illustration twice before putting it to the page.

I had to feature Howl's Moving Castle within the piece as it is one of my favourite stories.

I started colouring the piece with water colours, I feel it is a more subtle way of building up colours and layers, I still have quite a way to go.

Sketchbook Project

Sketchbook Project

I've now worked out my idea and theme for my 'Sketchbook Project', and so I have started work on the actual book. It didn't take me long to figure out the cover, what I wanted to call the book and what I wanted the cover to look like. I have named my book 'I See No Ships' after my grandfather, and I have laid out the cover so on the front you read the title and a large anchor, and then on the back there is the ship.

Green thumb?

Green thumb?

As it has been really hot for the past two weekends we have spent quite a lot of time outdoors and in our garden. I have a zero amount of gardening skills, but I'm trying. So last week I planted up a bunch of herbs, and I weeded out my strawberry plants and general garden area (we have a very small amount of outdoor space). Moby really loved being out in the garden, especially with Tom and I around for protection. He is quite the scared cat. He even had an encounter with next doors dog, the dog was quite interested in Moby, but he wanted nothing to do with the dog!

Sketching: Faces

Sketching: Faces

Sometimes I find it really difficult to draw faces.
So I picked up a free 'Stylist' Magazine in Town, and was sent a BooHoo catalogue through the post and I thought I should practice.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen some of these pieces.

I really like the outcome, and I think these faces are drawn well, I just need more practice on this subject.
What do you have trouble drawing?
